What This Calculator Does
Calculate one explicit datetime interval or a weekly or biweekly time card. Deduct multiple breaks and read daily and total net time as HH:MM and decimal hours. A two-week card also shows separate week totals.
When to Use It
Use it for shift records, lunch deductions, project hours and preliminary billing. Convert a pay scale with salary to hourly. Decide overtime eligibility separately using the applicable contract and local rules.
Inputs Explained
Single intervals use the browser’s local timezone and explicit dates, with a 366-day maximum. Weekly cards have seven rows and biweekly cards fourteen; each row is one shift of at most 24 hours. Blank rows are days off, but incomplete rows are errors. Mark next-day end for overnight cards. Enter up to ten breaks as whole minutes separated by commas, such as 30, 15. Break totals cannot exceed the shift or 1440 minutes. In interval mode break input is used only when deduction is checked.
How the Calculation Works
Elapsed minutes = end minus start. Net minutes = elapsed minutes minus total breaks. Decimal hours = net minutes/60. HH:MM separates whole hours and remaining minutes. Week totals sum the corresponding seven rows. Time cards compare clock times without timezone or daylight-saving adjustments; single datetime intervals compare actual local timestamps, so the modes can differ on a daylight-saving transition.
Example
Monday through Friday, 09:00–18:00 with 30, 30 minutes of breaks, gives eight net hours per day. Leave weekends blank: the week is 40:00 or 40.0000 hours. Two identical weeks total 80:00. An overnight 22:00–06:00 shift with next-day end and 30, 15 breaks gives 7:15 or 7.25 hours.
How to Understand the Result
7:30 means seven hours thirty minutes, which is 7.5 decimal hours. It does not mean 7.30 hours. Decimal results display four places while totals use minutes internally. The biweekly subtotals cover rows 1–7 and 8–14.
Common Mistakes
Do not multiply an hourly rate by 7.30 when the duration is 7:30. Enter the next date or mark next-day end explicitly. Break durations are deductions only; the tool does not check where breaks occurred or whether their actual intervals overlapped.
FAQ
How do I deduct lunch and several breaks?
Enter comma-separated minutes for each shift, such as 30, 15 for a total deduction of 45 minutes.
How do I enter an overnight shift?
Mark next-day end on a time card. For a single interval enter the actual end date; overnight work is not inferred.
How do HH:MM and decimal hours differ?
7:30 is seven hours thirty minutes, or 7.5 hours. Payroll rounding rules are not applied.
Notes
No payroll, overtime premiums, holidays, statutory-break rules, CSV or printing. No rounding to a particular attendance increment. Inputs remain in current page state without URL or browser-storage persistence.
