What This Calculator Does
Convert annual salary to hourly pay or hourly pay to annual salary using your own paid weeks and weekly hours. The page also shows daily, weekly, two-week and monthly equivalents. Actual attendance weeks provide a separate comparison without automatically treating paid vacation as unpaid.
When to Use It
Use it to compare gross pay scales or explore work-schedule assumptions. For raises use salary increase; for a specific start-to-end work interval use hours. Taxes, benefits and legal overtime calculations are separate tasks.
Inputs Explained
Choose annual or hourly input. Changing direction clears the amount to avoid reinterpreting a salary as an hourly rate. Amount is non-negative, at most 1e12. Weekly hours must be positive and at most 168, paid weeks positive and at most 53, attendance weeks positive and no greater than paid weeks, and days per week positive and at most 7. Hours cannot exceed days×24.
How the Calculation Works
Hourly = annual/(paid weeks×weekly hours). Annual = hourly×paid weeks×weekly hours. Daily = hourly×weekly hours/days per week. Weekly = annual/paid weeks. Biweekly = weekly×2. Monthly average = annual/12. Attendance-hour comparison = annual/(attendance weeks×weekly hours).
Example
Annual salary 52000, 52 paid weeks, 40 hours per week and 5 days per week gives 25/hour, 200/day, 1000/paid week, 2000/two paid weeks and 4333.3333/month. At 48 attendance weeks with 52 still paid, the standard hourly equivalent remains 25; annual pay per actual attendance hour becomes 27.0833. That is a comparison, not a changed contractual wage.
To verify the reverse direction, enter hourly pay 25 with 40 hours and 52 paid weeks: annual pay returns to 52000. With only 50 paid weeks, it becomes 50000, unlike merely reducing attendance weeks. A 100-hour week over one day is rejected because the hours exceed the available 24 hours.
How to Understand the Result
The main result follows the input direction. Monthly pay is an annual average, not a calendar-specific paycheck. Two paid weeks are different from twice-monthly pay: 26 biweekly periods and 24 semimonthly periods are not interchangeable. Currency labels do not convert your entered amount.
Common Mistakes
Keep paid vacation in paid weeks. Reduce paid weeks for unpaid time only. Do not describe the attendance-hour figure as payroll’s hourly wage. Prepare consistent hours before entering irregular schedules, unpaid breaks, bonuses or overtime; no premium is applied automatically.
FAQ
How do I include vacation?
Keep paid vacation in paid weeks and reduce attendance weeks as appropriate. Unpaid leave reduces paid weeks.
Is this take-home pay?
No. All values are gross before taxes and benefits.
Why is monthly pay not weekly pay times four?
Monthly average is annual pay divided by 12; four weeks per month accounts for only 48 weeks.
Notes
Fractional hours, weeks and days support proportional scenarios. Daily pay is an equivalent average, not a payroll calendar. Annual results cannot exceed 1e15. Values display up to four decimals but calculations remain unrounded. Inputs stay in page state without URL or browser storage.
